poster analysis - Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix is a fantasy film based on the novel by J.K Rowling of the same name, it was directed by David Yates and released in 2007.
In this film poster the onlooker instantly senses the hostile expressions and body language of the characters. Many of the characters have their arms folded in a hostile manner and the expressions on the faces of the characters are somewhat threatening. There is one in the middle with a full frontal view, this tells you that he is the main character, then we have three on either side which suggests thier importance in the film, the two infront are the supporting mains and so on. The whole poster is dominated by black, with the other colours (in the clothing) saturated with grey tones, except for the sharp contrast with the t-shirt of the main character, which enphasises his importance even more, all giving an eerie atmosphere. The red t-shirt also carries connotations of death, violence and blood suggesting that this film will have these elements within. The source of light is coming from behind where it looks dusty or foggy, suggesting a path of destruction behind them. But it also appears to be radiating from behind what we can presume is the main character, suggesting that he is he light amid all the darkness and that he is the hero of the film. We can tell that the characters are all young (some are even in uniform) which tells the audience that this film will be mainly based around teenagers. The main character is also holding a wand which make it clear to the audience that this film will be based on fantasy.
There are two main pieces of text in this poster. At the very top is the phrase 'The rebellion begins'  this suggests that the film will feature much conflict and once teamed with the image it is clear that the film is about the kids rebelling against a higher authority. The font of the text is simple or 'serious' and it is in white which once again connotes light amid darkness and possibly innocence as the main characters are all teenagers. It is positioned at the very top suggesting that the 'rebellion' is a high priority and a main feature in the narrative. At the bottom of the poster is the name of the film, Harry Potter is written in a type face which resembles lightning, which adds a sense of danger or even magic to the text. It is also very large which could have been done to exploit and existing fan base by having a recognized and loved brand name easily distinguishable. The rest of the title is in a much smaller font which one can assume is because the films are a series and so he last part of the title is less important than the more recognizable first. The title and the release date are both written in white to once again connote innocence and hope and to emphasise them.
Overall I think this is a very effective poster which lets you know enough about the plot to interest and entice you but not to give away any more, it also plays well on its already evident fan base.
